St George's Cultural Quarter Art Posts
Make your mark on Leicester’s Cultural Quarter
Published: 1 July 2024
Submissions for this project are now closed. Thank you to everyone that submitted a design.
Leicester City Council is inviting artists, designers and members of the public to create artwork that will decorate the lamp posts and road-sign posts of St George’s Cultural Quarter.
The aims are for the decorated posts to spark conversation and encourage social media sharing whilst supporting artists to make their mark on the creative St George’s area. The proposal is to introduce colour and vibrancy to the everyday through long-term, visual art intervention.
The Art Posts will highlight pedestrian routes linking cultural venues. Residents and visitors passing through the Cultural Quarter will recognise that they are in a culturally specific area through the quantity and quality of surrounding visual art. Artist studios based in St George’s Cultural Quarter have also been invited to submit Art Post designs to celebrate and showcase their creative contribution to the area.
Art Post submissions are accepted through an online open call. Submissions will be received digitally and reviewed for selection by a panel of Cultural Quarter and Leicester City Council representatives. The selected designs will decorate the lamp posts and road-sign posts across the Cultural Quarter. The printed designs will envelop the posts from the floor up to a height of 1.3m and different posts will included in the intervention. For a visual example, please see the representational image of the lamp posts below. Successful artists will be awarded a fee of £300 for their design.
Important dates:
- Week commencing Monday 2nd September: Entrants notified of outcome
- Date to be decided: Installation of printed artworks in the Cultural Quarter
