This fan was produced for the Grafton Fur Company in 1893 as advertising material, presumably to be given out to clients. This is still fairly common practice - companies give out calendars to their customers around December ready for the start of the new year.
The fan features a photo collage of theatre celebrities on one side and on the other is the calendar set into a winter scene of horse-drawn carriages driving through a tree-lined avenue.
The Object of the Month can be seen in person throughout November at Leicester Museum & Art Gallery.
