Leicester Milestones - Get Involved
We are asking Leicester residents to name milestone events for the city from the last 70 years to be featured in the Leicester Stories exhibition.

The new Leicester Stories exhibition is being developed at Leicester Museum and Art Gallery. It will focus on the stories and voices of people living in Leicester today – from the 1950s onwards – and will open in Spring 2022. We are asking Leicester residents to name milestone events for the city from the last 70 years to be featured in the Leicester Stories exhibition.
What are Leicester Milestones?
Leicester Milestones are events which:
A) have taken place in Leicester since 1950.
B) have defined and shaped the city into what it is today.
Milestones may have been challenges or achievements for the people of the city. Examples of Leicester Milestones might include:
1951 – the first houses are built at Eyres Monsell estate
1967 – Radio Leicester is launched – the first local BBC radio station
1983 – the first Diwali light switch on ceremony takes place
2001 – the National Space Centre opens
2016 – Leicester City Football Club become Premiere League Champions
How and when can I suggest a Leicester Milestone?
Leicester Milestones will be collated from social media responses to posts from Leicester Museums. You can also suggest a Leicester Milestone by emailing the exhibition Project Manager clare.hudson@leicester.gov.uk by Friday 10 September 2021 with your milestone idea. If necessary, we will select Milestones for the exhibition in collaboration with the Leicester Stories Co-production Group. Further suggestions for Milestones can also be made within the Leicester Stories exhibition after it opens in April 2022.
