Holiday Activities & Food Programme
Published: 31 August 2023
This summer Leicester Museums & Galleries launched our first Museum Holiday Club, funded by the Department for Education's 'Holiday Activities & Food Programme' and the Arts Council. Our free holiday clubs took place at Abbey Pumping Station and Belgrave Hall and offered a wide range of high quality activities and a healthy lunch for primary school aged children in the city who are in receipt of free school meals.
We invited colleagues from the museum’s Community Co-Production team, the LMTA Volunteers, the Parks team, the Libraries outreach team and our neighbours at the National Space Centre to help add variety to our programme. Thanks to working with these partners, our kids got to handle a small stuffed alligator, make a ‘Jupiter Jar’, tour the Transport shed and ride the train at Abbey Pumping Station, build dens in the gardens at Belgrave Hall, take home a free book from the Libraries Book Bus and visit the National Space Centre, (as well as lots of messy creating with paint, clay and slime!)
