Make learning fun

Our museum and heritage venues are free to enter and most are open every day. They are full of exciting objects, from dinosaurs to Egyptian mummies, with a regularly changing programme of community exhibitions from grass roots football to Indian art. Our museums are fun and entertaining, inspiring and engaging, creative and educational.
Individuals and families are welcome to visit at any time during opening hours.

See our latest events in our What's On calendar.

We hold a wide range of activities for families, from craft activities inspired by our exhibitions to object handling, summer garden games at Belgrave Hall Gardens to feeding our live creatures at Leicester Museum & Art Gallery.

Find our stall and family activities at city-wide festivals such as St. George’s Festival and Riverside Festival, or visit our pop-up museum in Highcross Shopping Centre during half term holidays.

We offer family learning opportunities for groups outside mainstream education.

Sublime Symmetry

Sublime Symmetry was a temporary exhibition in which featured ceramics and tiles from the Arts and Crafts movement with decorations inspired by Islamic design. The exhibition linked to maths as many of the designs featured symmetry, so alongside tours for a range of community groups, family learning activities were offered for home schooled groups of Mums and children. These linked art and maths and led to many repeat visits to the exhibition and to the museum generally by families who had never visited museums before.
