Join us for a fun, action packed day out for all the family at Abbey Pumping Station!

Join us for a fun, action packed day out for all the family at the Emergency Services Day at Abbey Pumping station! With fire engines, flashing lights, police cars, ambulances and so much more! You’ll have the chance to see the majestic steam powered Beam Engine in action and take a ride on the train hauled by our Steam Locomotive. An array of vintage vehicles will be on display in the grounds including Leicester Museum’s collection of historic Fire Engines.
Here’s just some of the exciting activities to enjoy:
- Meet the crews and learn more about their life saving work.
- Demonstrations of working emergency vehicles!
- Kids dress up zone – kids can dress up and have their photo taken in front of Leicester Museum’s historic Fire Engines!
- Enjoy chips from our vintage coal fired Chip Van.
The Steam Locomotive Railway will be running for just 50p per ride. Pay by cash at the station or by card at reception/ café.
Please note: all children must be accompanied by an adult on the diesel driven train rides.
The café will be open for light refreshments.

Customers who require assistance to attend Abbey Pumping Station events can apply for a free companion ticket. Please email the team at aps@leicester.gov.uk.
Please note: all children must be accompanied by an adult on the Steam Railway train rides.
Event Parking: Parking is located at the National Space Centre situated next to the museum. The Space Centre car park is on Exploration Drive, post code LE4 5NS. The walkway entrance to Abbey Pumping Station is clearly signposted next to the car park.
