Elizabeth Heyrick (1769-1831) An Uncompromising Friend of Liberty
A Talk by Jess Jenkins
Leicester has good cause to be proud of Elizabeth, although today she is seldom remembered. Whether as a campaigner for the abolition of slavery, a friend of the oppressed or animal rights activist, she exhibited the same depth of understanding and compassion. Her pamphlets urging the immediate abolition of slavery were widely read both in this country and in the States and her influence was immeasurable.
This talk will detail the life of this fascinating woman, a humble Quaker yet fierce champion of justice.
Tickets £5.00, pre-booking essential.
