Event Description
A new tour for Leicester’s Guildhall, The Civil War.

King Charles I thought that he had a divine right to rule without a Parliament.
The English civil war broke out and there was a series of battles between the Kings army, the Cavaliers and the Roundheads who wanted Charles to rule with a parliament.
Leicester supported the Parliamentarians and in May 1665, King Charles I decided to march into Leicester.
On this special fe tour you can find out why this happened and why it was a significant event for Leicester and for the Guildhall.
