Rediscovering Mary Linwood Creative Activities Day

Saturday 29th March 11am-3pm

Location: St Margaret’s Church, Leicester

The day includes:



  • Colourful cord making & wool embroidery activities

  • Talks about Mary Linwood

  • See Ruth Singer’s new artwork in progress

  • Demonstrations of needle painting embroidery

  • See images and information about Mary Linwood’s work

  • Contribute to artworks for the exhibition*

  • Visit the Mary Linwood memorial and burial marker


Entry to the historic church and all activities FREE.

Mary Linwood was a celebrity embroidery artist from Leicester in the early 1800s. This project celebrates her life and work. There will be an exhibition at Leicester Museum & Art Gallery in September 2025. The exhibition will include many works by Mary Linwood and new textile artworks by Leicestershire artist Ruth Singer.

Entry to the historic church and all activities FREE.

Refreshments (drinks and cakes) available at a small charge, provided by the church volunteers.

No need to book, drop-in whenever you can. Timings for events will be added soon.

St Margaret’s Church address: St Margaret’s Way Leicester Leicester, LE1 3EB.

The church is on the A6, by the underpass, near St Margaret’s bus station. It is a few minutes walk from John Lewis car park. There is some paid street parking on the roads around the church too.

By public transport, St Margaret’s Bus Station is across the main road. The free Hop bus from the railway station and city centre stops nearby.
