The Unglamorous Sampler was recorded in autumn 2022 and a kickstarter fundraiser for the album was launched on March 8 2023 at the International Women’s Day Firebug gig. This event included performances by 7 original bands who feature on the album, and 5 new bands from the second wave of Unglamorous workshops to an audience of over 300 people.
Ruth’s vision for the album was to give the bands a professional recording experience and to produce an iconic sampler in the style of those released in the 1970’s. Ruth’s drive and enthusiasm, along with a wave of publicity that came from a viral post celebrating Ruth and her Unglamorous vision, led to over £12k being raised through the kickstarter. The album was then professionally mastered and launched digitally, on CD and on vinyl. The vinyl is in a high-quality gatefold sleeve which charts the development of Unglamorous coming out of the elongated Leicester Covid 19 Lockdown.
The Unglamorous sampler was released 7 July 2023 and is still available to buy or listen to online.
