Ruth Miller started her band Po! and record label Rutland Records in the later 1980’s. Critically acclaimed Po! enjoyed an NME single of the week and a John Peel Radio 1 session. She later formed another band, Ruth’s Refrigerator. Ruth co-wrote the Punk Girl Diaries blog and blog zine from 2018 but it was post pandemic that she sought but couldn’t find women musicians in Leicester to begin an all-female band. The idea of forming a group with beginner musicians took root and she formed The Verinos, focusing on punk-inspired simplicity and self-expression.

Ruth was living with metastatic breast cancer as she ran the Unglamorous Music movement, empowering women to write and perform their own songs full of wit and experience. ‘It’s art rock, not a community project’ she said.
Ruth Miller died on October 16th 2023 and leaves behind her an incredible legacy of women in music in Leicester and beyond.
