Dickens’ performance is not a play or a reading and was best described after one of Dickens’ Boston performances. According to Variety, “Among the myriad versions of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" that pop up each Christmas, this one is different in two ways. One: Gerald Charles Dickens, who plays all 26 characters in the cautionary 1843 tale, is the author's great-great-grandson. Two: His performance is twirlingly, leapingly physical, the antithesis of a "reading" of the work.”
