Climate Change Creative Competition 2021

We’re looking for creative children and young people to enter a competition to have their work in our online exhibition about climate change and the natural world.

Climate change is a very important subject to all of us but particularly to the young people in our society because they will be the ones to see the impact it has in the future. 

The Competition

We are asking children and young people:

  • To show us how they feel about climate change

or

  • Send us their observations on the natural world that’s all around us - even living in the city!

We welcome creative entries in any medium, including drawings, paintings, poems, photography and cartoons.

Win a new camera

The competition is split in to two age groups, the overall winner of each age group will win a brand new camera

  • Ages 5 - 11
  • Ages 12 - 18

The Judging

The entries will be judged by a panel from the Young Creators Group and they will choose 50 artworks to feature in an online exhibition on Leicester Museums & Galleries Website. There will also be an overall winner from each of the two age groups who will receive a brand new instant camera with film.

Only the 50 selected artists will be informed of their success in being selected for the online exhibition. If you weren't successful this time you will not receive a response.

The Rules

  1. This competition is open to Leicester and Leicestershire residents only between the ages of 5 and 18.
  2. Deadline for entry is Tuesday 31 August 2021 at 5pm.
  3. One entry per person.
  4. The competition is free to enter and no purchase is necessary.
  5. The judges shall assess the entries and one winner from each age category (ages 5- 11 and 12-18) will be selected. The judges’ decisions shall be final. No correspondence regarding the results will be entered into.
  6. The two winners shall each receive an instant camera and film. The prizes will be sent to the winners and by post or email within 28 days of the winner responding to notification that they have won.
  7. The winners will be notified by email or telephone (using the details provided at entry) within 21 days of a decision being made and must provide a postal address to claim their prize. The prize is non-exchangeable, non-transferable and no cash alternative is offered. The winner's name will be published on the this competition page.

How to enter the competition

Step 1:

Open a new email and address it to: learning@leicester.gov.uk you must include this text in the subject line: Climate Change Creative Competition 2021 - YOUR NAME

You must include this information in your email:

  • Name of entrant
  • Age of entrant
  • (Optional) short explanation of your submitted work, two sentences maximum

Step 2:

Send us your entry using this guidance:

Visual art or photography entries - attach a photograph of your artwork or to the email, if you are unsure of how to photograph your work please use our guide How to Photograph Your Work. It must meet these criteria:

It must be a jpeg file.

The file name must include your initials then the name of the work, eg. Joe Bloggs Leicester Landscape should be titled 'JB_leicesterlandscape.jpeg'.

Image dimensions: between 1000 pixels to 3000 pixels on the longest edge.

5mb maximum file size.

Written word entries - please send us your entry by email; either attach your text document or include your text in the body of the email.

Step 3:

Wait to receive a reply to tell you if you were successful in featuring in the online exhibition. We will aim to inform all successful entrants by Tuesday 14 September 2021.

Terms & Conditions

  1. By submitting an entry, you agree to be legally bound by the Rules and these Terms & Conditions.
  2. Any entry must be your original work and it must not infringe the rights of third parties including copyright, trade mark, trade secrets, privacy, publicity, personal or proprietary rights. In addition, all entries must be produced legally without trespassing on any land and no wildlife or habitats should be harmed, put at risk or unduly disturbed in the process.
  3. Full copyright title shall be retained by the author of any entry. By submitting any entry to Leicester Museums & Galleries (including any text, photographs, graphics, video or audio), you agree to grant the Leicester Museums & Galleries a perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive, sub-licensable right and worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform, display and exercise all publicity rights with respect to your entry, and/or to incorporate your entry in other works, in any media.
  4. By submitting an entry, you agree to waive any moral rights contained in your entry. Any entry you provide shall be non-confidential.
  5. By submitting an entry, you agree the Leicester Museums & Galleries may use the material for any purpose and in any way it chooses, including, but not limited to, marketing, publicity, advertising and presentations.
  6. Leicester Museums & Galleries shall not be liable for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage or for any costs, claims or demands of any nature whatsoever arising directly or indirectly out of the use of your entry or any part thereof.
  7. Insofar as is permitted by law, Leicester Museums & Galleries will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize, except where it is caused by the negligence of Leicester Museums & Galleries, or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.
  8. You agree to indemnify Leicester Museums & Galleries against any claim from any third party for any breach of the Rules or these Terms &Conditions.
  9. Leicester Museums & Galleries reserves the right to update the Rules and these Terms & Conditions from time to time and any updated version will be effective as soon as it is published.

Leicester Museums & Galleries takes your privacy very seriously; we will only use your personal information in accordance with the terms of these Terms and Conditions. By submitting an entry, you confirm that you have read and agree to these terms and conditions.

Any personal data submitted will be held securely and in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018. Personal data supplied may be passed on to third party suppliers only insofar as required for fulfilment/delivery/arrangement of the prize.

The winner may be required to participate in publicity related to the competition which may include the publication of their name and photograph in any media. You agree that your personal data may be used for this purpose.

For the avoidance of doubt, by submitting your entry you warrant that all persons featured in your entry have given you their express consent for their image, voice or other details to be used and, in the case of vulnerable adults or persons under 18 years of age, you warrant that you have obtained express consent from their parent(s) or legal guardian(s).
