How to get here

We encourage walking, cycling and the use of public transport to visit our museum venues when possible. All text directions below start at The Clock Tower in Leicester City Centre.

Walking

33 mins walk - With the Clock Tower to your back, face towards TK Maxx and start walking along Haymarket which becomes Belgrave Gate. Pass Haymarket bus station and continue ahead using the pedestrian crossing. At the roundabout, cross towards Kapital Buildings via the pedestrian crossings, then bear left at the wide public space towards Parkers. Walk along Charter Street then cross the bridge towards Abbey Park. Cross Abbey Park towards the cafe, then turn right to follow the cycleway north beside the river (signposted Abbey Meadows). Cross Abbey Park Road and continue beside the river. Pass the National Space Centre and turn left to reach Abbey Pumping Station.

Cycling

12 mins cycle - Starting from the Clock Tower cycle along Humberstone Gate before turning left to join Charles Street. Follow Charles Street to the end of the road and turn right on to Belgrave Gate. Cycle on the segregated cycle track on Belgrave Gate to the roundabout, use the pedestrian crossings to the left of Belgrave Gate to navigate the roundabout and access Archdeacon Lane via the shared use space. Once on Archdeacon Lane turn onto Charter Street, bear right at the Morningside Arena and head over the bridge. Take the immediate right following the bridge to access National Cycle Route 6. Follow National Cycle Route 6 crossing Swans Nest Bridge and the bridge at Leicester Sea Cadets. After crossing the bridge turn left and follow the path on to Corporation Road where Abbey Pumping Station will be on your left.

Driving

There is no parking facility at Abbey Pumping Station but visitors can park at the National Space Centre situated next to the museum. The Space Centre car park is on Exploration Drive, post code LE4 5NS. The walkway entrance to Abbey Pumping Station is clearly signposted next to the car park.
